Taste :4.1/5 Environment: 4.2/5 Service:3.9/5 Tried Daddyji in Claremont for lunch and while the food was decent, the overall experience could use a little refinement. They offer a lunch menu, which is great if you’re looking for Indian cuisine in the area. However, it took about 20–30 minutes for the food to come out — which felt long for a lunch setting. What made the wait a bit more uncomfortable was the service. The wait staff checked in constantly — about every 3 to 5 minutes — asking how the food was, even before we had a chance to start eating. While attentive service is appreciated, this felt more like hovering and got a little distracting. I also tried the pineapple lemonade, and unfortunately, it was way too sweet, almost syrupy. Would love to see a more balanced version in the future.
A Hidden Gem in Claremont I’m so glad I stumbled upon this place while walking around Claremont. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome. The restaurant was clean, and the interior was tastefully decorated with elegant blue chairs and beautiful hand-painted art on the walls. The Punjabi music playing in the background added a comforting, homely touch that made the experience even more authentic. I came hungry and left with a full belly and generous leftovers. Here’s what I ordered: Appetizers: Pani Puri & Samosas The pani puri was a standout—flavorful, perfectly balanced, and presented with a level of elegance you’d expect from a high-end spot. It’s rare to see this kind of quality and plating at such a reasonable price point. The samosas were solid, more traditional in size and flavor, nothing too out of the ordinary, but still enjoyable. Main Course: Lamb Biryani & Paneer Kulcha When the biryani came out, I was already excited just by looking at it. The vibrant colors were visually striking, and it looked so appetizing that even the table next to me asked what I had ordered! Taste-wise, it was light yet flavorful—not soaked in oil like you often find at lower-tier places. I requested an 8/10 spice level, but it felt closer to a 5—next time, I’ll definitely go for the full 10. To accompany it, I had the paneer kulcha, which arrived hot, fresh, and perfectly balanced—not overly salty or greasy. Next time, I’ll ask for some butter on the side and a bit of achar (pickled veggies) to complete the experience. I was so full I couldn’t finish the biryani or kulcha—and even had a samosa left over. Of course, I asked for everything to go. At that point, all that was missing to complete the full desi experience was a sweet ending with chai. Dessert: Gulab Jamun & Chai The gulab jamun was served hot and fresh—soft and sweet, just the way it should be. The chai came with sugar on the side so you can sweeten it to taste, which I appreciated. I do think it could have used a bit more spice—perhaps a touch of star anise to really make it stand out—but for the price, it still delivered. The Verdict: • Pani Puri: 10/10 • Samosas: 6.8/10 • Lamb Biryani: 10/10 • Paneer Kulcha: 9/10 • Chai: 7/10 • Gulab Jamun: 8.5/10 Total: $44 For this price? You really can’t beat it. The quality, presentation, and service are beyond what you’d expect at this price point. I’ll definitely be coming back regularly!
My first time eating Indian food that isn’t store bought. Been eying this place for a while and finally had a chance to give it a try. The place is in downtown Claremont, I parked on the street and walked across to pick up my food. The staff seemed nice and I had no trouble calling to order to go. I was able to try the classic Tikka Masala and the Tandori Chicken that everyone on Yelp was talking about. Have got to say that Tandori Chicken packed a punch. Not used to the coat but it was quite tasty. Spicy but not too crazy. The Tikka Masala was great, and the chicken was so tender. The only thing I wasn’t used to was the Nhan, which was harder. Again don’t quote me on it as I am not sure how this type of cuisine is supposed to be! I just know I enjoyed it ! Looking forward to trying some of their other dishes, and because of this experience, going to want to try some other Indian restaurants as well. Until next time!
Food is fire and good prices and very pretty interior and really nice bathroom and good portion sizes and gave free dessert. Only complaint is that wait was long but it was lunch hour but otherwise so good and free dessert :D yay daddy ji!! the interior has a nice atmosphere w comfortable chairs except one chair on the right side wobbled a bit but no big deal bc the food was SO GOOD and the portions and price ALL GOOD but expect to wait a bit if u come for lunch
The daddyji food-truck debut as a restaurant is great. The service is very kind, patient, attentive and quick for a dine in Indian cuisine. The food is a solid 4 out of 5. Now many would complain about authenticity of some dishes but authenticity aside the taste was great in most of the dishes I had. The curries were fragrant, and well cooked. The noodles could use some attention. The charge for extra sambar for dosa was a bit awkward. But there were no dishes with excess salt as is the case with many other Indian restaurants and still being able to get my taste buds distinct taste responses. Overall a very good place to visit again. Refer images for what I ordered.
Came here last Saturday 5.3.25 it was a rainy early evening. We waited outside (didn't have reservations) it was cold but we weren't alone there were others who also didn't have reservations. This place is popping with take-out, so don't let the people waiting outside deter you from approaching. We ordered LOTS of food to try and by far our favorite was the Samosa Chat... OMG!! so delicious. Our table of 3 shared 1 as an appetizer. My jasmine iced tea was refreshing as well. So our first order of the Garlic Naan was sorta burnt, they replaced it once we said something. The Tikka Masala Chicken was divine, my fish lahori was ok but I'm used to the breading being a bit lighter the tamarind sauce get's me EVERY DAYUM TIME!! so good! Parking is a challenge here as the adjacent parking lot actually belongs to the business next door; you're pretty much parking at your own risk since all the signs warn you that you would be towed. On the weekends I think most people guess it's ok since the business' aren't open. Service is BUSY AF but they do try and give you ample attention. Respectfully Reviewed.
I LOVE THEIR FOOD! Their service is great and the waiting staff gave great recommendations. I came for lunch and thought their lunch specials are a REALLY good deal! Food was plentiful and the service is really good. The butter chicken was flavorful and the samosas tasted great. I’ll definitely be back and I’d call Daddy Ji one of the best restaurants in Claremont!
One of the best Indian food in LA. The environment is clean and staffs are so friendly. We had butter chicken and lamb shank curry…definitely come visit again
